Solar Energy Information
Tax Credits Incentives

Solar Tax Incentive

More and more people are searching for solar energy information these days and most of those people are happy to find significant tax credits available when they invest in a new solar system for their business or home.

There are currently tens of thousands of homes, businesses, schools, government facilities and commercial businesses using photovoltaic solar panels to cut their energy bills. Most of these are connected to the utility electric grid and use net metering laws to allow use of electricity in the evening that was actually generated during the daytime by a solar pv power system. New Jersey leads the nation with the least restrictive net metering law while California leads in total number of homes which have solar panels installed.

A fast growing new technology called Building-integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) is using photovoltaic materials that are used to replace conventional building materials in parts of the building such as the roof, skylights and facades. These serve as a ancillary source of electrical power and older buildings are being retrofitted with BIPV modules as well. The initial costs can be offset by reducing the amount spent on building materials and the tax incentives offered by both state and federal governments.

Database of State and Federal Incentives for Renewable Energy

The link above will take you to a comprehensive source of information on state, local, utility, and federal incentives and policies that promote renewable energy and energy efficiency. Established in 1995 and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, DSIRE is an ongoing project of the N.C. Solar Center and the Interstate Renewable energy Council.

Their website is setup so you can select your state right on their Home page and drill down to find exactly what tax incentives your state is offering you to encourage investment in a clean, renewable source of electrical energy such as Solar PV Power panels.

Don’t forget to click on the Federal Incentives section to learn about up-to-date federal incentives to help you keep your costs down to a minimum.

Take the time now to see how affordable a new solar system can be for your home or business.
