Cutting Costs With Solar Pool Heating

It’s that time of year again when snowbirds flock down to Florida from the North in order to seek refuge from the freezing winters. And what better way to spend the Fall and Winter months than by lounging in the sun and going for a swim in a warm and pristine blue swimming pool. But this past winter was unseasonably cold for the Sunshine State with temperatures reaching record lows, and therefore operating costs of swimming pools reaching all-time highs. Resorts, condominiums, and even local residents were forced to leave pool heaters running continuously in order to keep their pools at a comfortable temperature.

The average swimming pool heater requires a significant amount of energy in order to operate efficiently. This means an increase in usage results in a considerable rise in your electric bills. But there’s a simple solution to avoid more money coming out of your pocket without sacrificing your comfort; GO SOLAR!

Solar pool heating systems are an inexpensive and environmentally-friendly way to save you money. Not only are these systems low in annual operating costs, they’re simple to install and work with your existing pool pump/filter system! The majority of these systems include: a solar collector, which absorbs the heat from the sun and subsequently heats the pool water being circulated through it; a circulating pump and filter, which every swimming pool has; and a flow control valve, which will divert the water to the solar collector. Pool water is pumped through the solar collector where it is heated, then returned back to the swimming pool.

Solar pool heating is one of the most cost-effective ways to be Green and extend your swimming season year-round. Choose a contractor that has the experience in solar applications, and start saving on your monthly utility bill immediately!
